Biography

It’s hard to know where to start. How about just some highlights?

Family:

Cynthia and I were married for forty wonderful years.    After  her death,  God blessed me once more with the love of a wonderful woman, and Kay and I have been married since 2001.

Three great “kids,”:  Allen, and his wife Lynne. Brian, and his        wife Catherine. Ann, and her husband Benny. No grandchildren, two grandcats and one granddog.

Physician:

Retired since 2002, after twenty-six years in solo private practice of ear, nose and throat, then ten years as a Professor at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical School (my alma mater). During that time, I wrote or edited a number of textbooks, authored over a hundred professional papers, and was an invited guest speaker all over the world. Held the presidency or vice-presidency of three professional societies, and was privileged to receive a number of awards and honors. I still consider the greatest reward to be seeing patients get better under my care.

Christian:

Church member, Deacon, choir member at First Baptist Church, Duncanville, Texas.

Writer and speaker:

Didn’t start out to be one, but God kind of had other plans.  See details on the web site about my writing and speaking ventures.

Golfer:

Severely average, although my golf partner and I don’t generally keep score. (We enjoy it more that way). For those of you  who think your golf will get better if you play once a week--don’t  believe it!

 Hobbies:

Reading, golf, writing, travel, taking an afternoon nap.

And the necessary background:

§  Born 1936, Decatur, Texas. Educated in Decatur Public Schools, high school Valedictorian.

§       BA from North Texas State University (Now the University of North Texas); MD from the University of Texas Southwestern Medical School in Dallas; Specialty training in ear, nose & throat at Dallas VA Hospitals and Parkland Memorial Hospital

§       Military service in US Air Force, rank of Captain, received Air Force Commendation Medal. Never saw a shot fired in anger (except on the firing range, where I never could qualify with the .45 caliber pistol).

§ Current residence: Duncanville, Texas, just south of Dallas. Small enough for us to know the folks we see at the cleaners and grocery, big enough to have almost everything you might want, and close enough to Dallas for everything else.
