One of the talents required for
burglary would appear to be good night vision. Most of
these criminals work in darkness, since turning on a
light would alert a householder or passerby that
something is amiss. So these lawbreakers shun the light,
preferring to grope their way through the darkness to
accomplish their ends.
Our lives are examples to others
for good or for ill. If there are things in them that
would fail the test of being held up to the light of
public inspection, they need to be pruned away like so
much dead wood. If we have to cover our actions, either
with a literal or figurative cloak of darkness, or
conceal our attitudes behind a smokescreen of deception,
we're missing the mark. When we feel the need to conceal
what we truly are, we can be sure we're not living up to
God's expectations.
Evil loves darkness, anonymity,
and lack of accountability. Followers of Christ walk in
the light. Everything that we do should be able to pass
the test of public scrutiny, and reflect the light of
Christ within us.
Prayer:
Father, keep us
mindful that our actions and words are beacons for
others.
